Sextherapy.com is a portal designed to advance the field of sex therapy by sharing knowledge and connecting people with similar interests. Specifically, this will be accomplished by:
- Sharing the collective knowledge of therapeutic approaches to human sexuality with the world.
- Connecting the general public with trained therapists who have an expertise with specific sexual issues.
- Developing a forum for therapists to exchange ideas about particular subjects relating to the field of human sexuality.
The field of human sexuality is vast and controversial. Problems include decreased desire and arousal; sexual pain, coping with infertility; concerns relating to sexually transmitted infections; questions about sexual orientation; managing sex offenders, sexual trauma and addiction. Additionally, lifestyle issues range from improving or maintaining a healthy sexual relationship; learning new approaches like Tantric sex; understanding alternative practices like celibacy, premarital sex, swinging, open marriage, and S&M (Sadism and Masochism).
No one therapist can manage each issue equally well. Additionally, some therapists are trained to work with children, seniors, or individuals with physical or mental disabilities. The number of therapists who have expertise on specific sexuality issues is limited, especially in less populated regions. Locating a therapist with specific training can be challenging. Furthermore, sex therapy is a growing field that is still in its infancy.
Clients will have the opportunity to learn more about their issues so that they might be able to choose the most appropriate therapy for themselves. They will be able to “preview” their prospective therapist by discovering on-line profiles of different therapists in their region. They will have access to different therapeutic ideas, and therefore be able to make a more informed choice of therapist.
Therapists will have the opportunity on this website to publish information about which they have expertise including, informational articles, self-help tips, and audio or video podcasts. They will have an online forum to provide information to clients, and a secure private forum through which they can communicate directly with other therapists. All therapists at times will have questions about their approach to a specific therapeutic problem. Our hope is that this portal will be used to create a dialogue among professionals to further the field of sexuality.
