Increasing the chances of becoming pregnant - written in no particular order
- Stop using all forms of birth control and start having intercourse once every 48 hours. This will maximize the amount of sperm in the ejaculate. Having more frequent sex ironically decreases the chances of getting pregnant.
- Try to engage in intercourse during ovulation. Ovulation occurs approximately14 days before menstruation. A woman can not get pregnant unless she ovulates.
- A woman is more likely to conceive if she is on the bottom when the man ejaculates. Afterward, she may want to remain in this position, with her hips slightly elevated, thus increasing the likelihood of fertilization.
- Stop trying to get pregnant. Often, the very act of trying to get pregnant causes stress. For many folks, this stress can prevent pregnancy from occurring. Too much focus on "getting pregnant and overcoming fertility problems" takes the fun out of sex. Sex with a mission over a prolonged period of time can be a buzz kill. While having sex simply for fun may sound like an impossible task it protects the overall health of a relationship! Sexual chemistry is a key component of happy long term relationships.
- Heat can decrease the sperm count, so men should stop using hot tubs, avoid long hot baths, and wearing weather restrictive clothing.
- Lastly, the man should remove his tighty-whiteys and replace them with non-restrictive underwear, like boxers. This facilitates the testes' ability to self-regulate their temperature (again, heat decreases sperm count).
- If you have been trying to get pregnant for a year or more (or if you are a woman over the age of 35, and have been trying to get pregnant for more than 6 months), both parties should consider seeing a fertility specialist to evaluate for fertility problems. There could be something wrong with either the sperm or the egg. With the help of some medically prescribed tests, many common problems could be identified and easily treated.
- Stop smoking, drinking, taking medication & herbal supplements (unless you have the doctors permission).
- Take prenatal vitamins
- Exercise & eat right.
